High School Lock In

May 29, 2013

I am working on plans for our lock in on June 14 – so far, its going well. For the service portion, we are going to put together chemo kits for patients at Ellis Fischel, our local cancer treatment center. I will admit – the idea is not original. See that post here. But my cousin Erin, the dr, is at Ellis and loved the idea.  So we will run with it 🙂 Part of our time will also be assisting in set up/decorating for VBS, which begins on June 16.

So, Youth Min friends (and St. Andrew’s youth) – what are your favorite lock in activities? What movies would you suggest?

Confirmation Ministry is gearing up!

August 18, 2011

I’ve been spending some time on plans for the upcoming year of confirmation  ministry. One of goals as guides is to make the expectations clear for the youth. We want them to understand what we expect from them, what they can expect from us, and what their parents expect from the ministry as a whole.  We are going to attempt a large and small group writing exercise for this endeavour. I am curious to see what guidelines the youth come up with.

Working on items like this reminds me of  my days as a before and after school site director and creating similar documents for kids in grades k-5.  Today was a little sad, as it is the first day of school in Columbia, and I wasn’t at Derby Ridge with my kiddos. I did get to have lunch with three of my former staff members and was able to enjoy their quirky stories about the first morning of programming.

But back to St. Andys – the confirmation guides are WAY excited to be planning a meet and greet ice cream social on the first night of Whylie (YLE or YOuth Learning Event).  The guides want to get to know the parents and provide the parents a opporutnity to see what we do during our YLE. We truly feel that the more involved the parents are, the more fulfilling experience the youth are able to have.  Confirmation ministry has 4 pieces: youth, pastor, guides, and parents. Each piece is necessary for a functional ministry.  If you are a confirmation parent, please join us at 6 p.m. on the 28th for ice cream and socializing as we kick off another exciting year of confirmation ministry! We are happy to take any suggestions on service projects that the confirmation youth can do. Just comment here or shoot me an email!

Again – looking for some input on night for a drop in youth group night – use the nifty poll below! (I am having WAY too much fun learning about all the gadgets and gizmos WordPress has to offer)

Best to all, in Christ,
Becky

Advisory Committee Mtg Tomorrow

Our new Youth and Family Ministry advisory committee is meeting tomorrow at 7 – if you have some insight/suggestions on what direction to take, please post a comment here or email me at rebecca.ragan.rentchler@gmail.com

Hello world!

August 2, 2011

Hi!

Welcome to the St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church Youth and Family Ministry Website! Please bear with me as I learn wordpress and get programming details set up. I am so excited to be a part of the minstries at St. Andrews!  My goal for this page is to be a communication conduit for all members of our church, but specifically, I would like to be a place for the youth, their families and the YM volunteers to connect.

Let me know if you have any suggestions.

With you in Christ,

Becky
